Angel Mendez was elected to the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees in May of 2014. Mendez, currently a PhD (Leadership) student at Our Lady of the Lake University since 2008, earned his Master of Education Degree with a major in Education Administration from The University of Texas at Brownsville, May 2000. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Kinesiology and a minor in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Brownsville in August 1997.
He has been employed with various universities, including the University of Texas and Texas Southmost College, where he served as the Director for Dual Enrollment. While employed at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen, he served as Curriculum Coordinator and Director of Collaborative Projects.
At the University of Texas at Brownsville, he held the position of Coordinator of High School Equivalency Program and served as an adjunct professor. He previously worked for the San Benito CISD as a General Equivalency Degree instructor, a teacher, a teacher assistant and a library assistant.
Mendez, the son of Maria de Jesus and Carlos Mendez, is married to Belinda A. Mendez and they have five children: Cameron R., Portia A., Kirsten D., Arlene N. and Brian A. Mendez. He is currently employed as the RGV liaison with Texas A & M University Kingsville.
